Honoring the Internationalist Youth Martyr Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi on the 2nd Anniversary of her Murder

Tariq El-Tahrir Youth and Student Network raises the highest salute to the youth martyr Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi. We extend our sincere condolences to her family, husband, friends and loved ones on the second anniversary of her killing. Ayşenur was a U.S. and Turkish citizen who went to occupied Palestine as part of an International Solidarity Movement delegation to defend Palestinian land and homes under attack by the Israeli occupation forces and the zionist settler hordes. She was assassinated by a Zionist sniper in Beita on September 6th, 2024 as she, along with her comrades, confronted the Zionists as part of weekly demonstrations defending the land of Palestine.

Ayşenur was 26 years old and a recent university graduate in the fields of Psychology and Middle Eastern Language and Culture. She was a firm believer in justice who previously participated in protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline built to transport oil through the Standing Rock Sioux reservation and participated in the Faz3a movement defending Palestinian lands and homes.

She was a beloved community member in Seattle, U.S. and an active militant participant in the Student Intifada of Spring 2024. She helped organize the University of Washington Seattle campus “Liberated Zone;” whose main demands included the elimination of the University’s complicity in Zionist aggression, an end to the repression of the Palestinian liberation movement and the complete abolition of all relationships with the war-profiteering Boeing Company. These and similar demands remain on the lips of the global Palestine youth and student movement.

Ayşenur is of course not alone. Her picture in the location where she was assassinated stands alongside dozens of martyrs, nearly all Palestinian, who have sacrificed to defend their homeland and cause. She is among the list of youth and students who have sacrificed in the path of Al Quds. In the last week two youth, Omar Al-Na’san and Khalil Abu Alia were martyred by occupation aggression during settler attacks. She is also among the list of internationalists who have given their lives for Palestine, alongside Rachel Corrie (from Ayşenur’s home US state), Tsuyoshi Okidaira, Yasuyuki Yasuda, ten martyrs of the Turkish Solidarity Ship Mavi Marmara, and many others.

Ayşenur’s family issued a clear demand to the US regime to launch an investigation into her murder, to no avail. The funders, armers, and defenders of her killing have no interest to investigate it. Following its policy to lie, the israeli military determined that its soldiers killed Ayşenur “unintentionally”.

It is our duty as internationalist, Arab and Palestinian youth and students around the world to remember and honor all of our martyrs and continue on their path. We escalate our own work for the liberation of Palestine, from the river to the sea.
