In North America we have a role to play in waging the campaign for the liberation of Georges Abdallah and all prisoners of the Palestinian cause. As our comrades in Europe mobilize in the French capital of Paris for a big demonstration on June 14 and a week of action on June 11–19 in coordination with the Unified Campaign to Free Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, we too commit to taking up actions in North America demanding the release of our comrade Georges Abdallah.

While the Palestinian resistance courageously fights the occupation forces—led by the proud and unshakeable people of Gaza, the youth of the refugee camps, and the Palestinian prisoners—the French state proves its active collaboration in this genocide, particularly by repressing the solidarity movement with Palestine and keeping our comrade in prison. The French state has recently banned the Collectif Palestine Vaincra, and is trying to ban the Urgence Palestine coalition and more organizations. Many of these groups are central to the United Campaign for the Liberation of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah and so our comrades in France are counting on us to intensify our efforts within this context.

In this spirit, and in accordance with the new battle plan launched by the United Campaign for the Liberation of Georges Abdallah, let us seize all local initiatives to make the liberation of Georges Abdallah an imperative at every moment, and in all our struggles until victory, and let us organize ourselves for the next major national and international mobilization on June 14th—the day of the next large demonstration in Paris, just five days before the new hearing of the Paris Court of Appeal, because on June 19th, Georges Abdallah must be freed!

Background on Georges and his heroic fight

Georges Abdallah is a Lebanese communist and fighter for the Palestinian liberation movement, unjustly imprisoned in the colonial dungeons of France since 1984. Committed alongside the Palestinian fedayeen, he was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1987 for acts of resistance against colonialism and imperialism, at a time when the Lebanese and Palestinian peoples were being massacred by the Zionist occupation forces in Palestine and Lebanon. Eligible for release under French law since 1999, he remains imprisoned due to direct pressure from the United States government and the Zionist regime, and the French state’s determination to safeguard its interests in the region.

Despite all these years of incarceration, Georges Abdallah remains firmly committed to his revolutionary convictions and stands with the Palestinian resistance. He also vocally supports our labor, social, anti-racist, anti-colonial, anti-imperialist, progressive and feminist struggles—and it is precisely for this reason that the French state refuses to release him. As a symbol of Palestinian resistance, demanding his immediate release means supporting Palestine and the legitimate right of all peoples to resist colonialism and imperialism!
